3 Ways to Honour God & the Dachshund in Your Life

3 Ways to Honour God & the Dachshund in Your Life

I thank God everyday for Poppy, one of His most beautiful creations. What an honour it is for all of us who have animals in our lives as we are able to nurture life and see to it that this 'life' has everything it needs to thrive just as God would want.

I feel as though one of the most special ways we can honour God and His creations is to become present to His work.

When I say present, I mean to truly take in the Majesty of His work. No phone, no distractions, just me and Poppy. I feel strongly that one of the most special ways that we can worship God is by having those “awe’ moments. The kind of moments that make you stop and feel/think, “Wow, there is so undoubtedly a Creator that brought such beauty into this world!” You know, those profound moments that take your breath away as you reflect on God’s perfect work. Whether it be a sunset, a mountain range, the ocean, whatever it is, we can open ourselves up to the magnificence of God’s Creations. What a wonderful way to praise our God by cherishing the animals in our lives!

Here are 3 ways I do this with Poppy:

  1. Whatever she is doing, I will not just watch her but study her. Whether she is chasing a squirrel, napping in my lap, or chewing on a marrow bone, I will drop everything I am doing to ‘take her all in”. I can’t tell you how many times that that has brought me to tears as I reflect on the privilege that I have to share my life with an animal that was so perfectly designed by God.
  2. Enjoy a walk in nature together. Poppy and I love our daily long walks in a nearby park. There is a trail that we walk through that feels as though we are right in the middle of a forest! It’s so beautiful! Being tucked away together in a place so far removed from the busyness of life helps me (and her) really appreciate what matters in life. It’s also another wonderful way to take in the majesty of God’s beautiful earth; the earth that He created for all of His creatures to enjoy!
  3. Engage in an activity together with eye contact. Whether it’s a training game, or throwing the ball, or another engagement activity, it provides such a wonderful opportunity to see their character and personality come out. It can even inspire laughter at some of the silliness that can arise during such moments! How funny is it when our dogs make us laugh thinking to ourselves ‘this is what having an animal to share life with is all about!’

Whatever way you enjoy the darling creature in your life, may you enjoy it the fullest!
