Where It All Started

Stories of the heart always take my breath away perhaps because I have always considered love to be the thread through which God fabricates our lives. It never ceases to amaze me what humans are capable of doing in the name of love.
And for those of us who have decided to open up our lives and our hearts to one of God’s most precious creatures, the themes of selfless and unconditional love prevail.
What has always astounded me is the consistent and unfailing unconditional love dogs give. Like many of you, your home environment may have been one where love felt conditional. I know it was for me. You may also have come from an early formative place where anger and unhappiness seemed to shroud what you intuitively knew could be different but was never shown. And that is where the gift of our dog’s love come in….
Mine were my protectors, my guardians, and my little heroes of love. They were my constant in a an ever changing and mercurial environment. They were the ones that never stopped loving. They were the ones whose constant affection never ceased. They were the ones whose love felt like medicine to my wounded heart. For many like me, they will have been your first teacher of what love can feel like. I have always thought of dogs as a gift to us in that respect. Perhaps that is why God humorously chose to spell dog with His same letters just reversed!
The connection that we have with these most perfect creatures stops me in my tracks each day. Everyday, I stop, stare and experience the awe of Poppy’s perfection. I will notice the preciousness of her sweet eyebrows, her tiny little paws, the twinkle of her eyes, the brilliance of her nose, and everything about her that is just so perfectly made! Indeed, one of God’s most perfect designs! And by being mindful of her and allowing myself to be in awe of something so intricately designed by a Creator, it serves as the humble reality check that I need as I simmer in the humility and gratitude of God’s precious gift of life.
Dogs have a way of reminding us that it’s not just about us but about every living thing. Their love takes hold of our heart and opens us up to the the wider scope of life itself, its preciousness, its beauty, its frailty, its magnificence and its ability to fill us with a love so profound that it can only be of God’s design.
So this website is a dedication to love in all its forms but specifically of a creature that God decided to call the Dachshund. And a website to remind us all that Love is the saving Grace of this world.
